OH SO CLOSE
With only four points-scoring days, this short championship in 2022 was always going to be a very tough one to call. However, out of all the titles up for grabs in Italy over the two days of competition, the most significant question mark hung over the eventual destination of the Trial2 Women’s title. After Germany’s Sophia Ter Jung (TRRS) won the opening round on home territory in round one, it was the turn of Denisa Pechackova (Beta-CZE) on day two in Germany to make her championship intentions clear. However, as the championship moved to Italy, Theresa Bäuml (Vertigo-GER) won on day one to take the championship to the wire as Great Britain’s Isle-of-Man-based Kaytlyn Adshead (TRRS) took the win. As it happened, Denisa Pechackova won the title by a mere two points from Theresa Bäuml.
After the start of the championship, it was shaping up to be a two-way fight between Germany’s Sophia Ter Jung (TRRS) and Denisa Pechackova from the Czech Republic. They were tied on points at the top of the table following the opening round of two points-scoring days at the event in Germany. However, it was Ter Jung who dropped off the pace on Saturday’s day one in Italy, as her compatriot Theresa Bäuml (Vertigo) moved up to second in the series with the victory, ahead of Pechackova.
With a four-point advantage heading into day two, Pechackova knew a strong solid result was needed, and it was exactly what the 15-year-old delivered. As it happened, the win went to another new hot talent — Kaytlyn Adshead (TRRS) led from the first lap with seven marks lost, earning her a six-mark lead over Bäuml, with Pechackova a further three adrift.
On lap two, Adshead added an extra six to her total and with Bäuml ending the day in second on 18 marks lost, the British rider secured her first victory at this championship level. Pechackova also dropped her score to six on lap two, which was good enough to score third on the day and secure the treasured title for the first time by just two points.
