Four top waters to visit this month
THIS 18-year-old Shropshire water boasts four spring-fed lakes – Cranymoor, Lakemoor, Meadow and Marsh – each with its own individual character, and all are well-stocked with rainbow, brown and blue trout. The average size is 3lb but fish up to 20lb are caught daily. The lakes have been designed for ease of casting and with disabled access to each one. Areas in close proximity to much of the lakes have been cleared of obstacles, enabling wheelchair access as close as possible to the waterside. The fishery’s comprehensive facilities feature ample car parking, toilets (including disabled toilets), a small cafe and an extensive tackle shop. A range of hot and cold food at the cafe is prepared fresh on site and includes bacon and sausage sandwiches, cakes and confectionery. Unlimited free tea and coffee are available for visiting anglers. The tackle shop can kit anglers out with the latest tackle at an excellent price. It stocks all manner of rods and reels, flies and fly-tying equipment, sunglasses and new ranges of clothing. The fishery is a main listed supplier of Scierra, Airflo, Wychwood, Greys, Snowbee and many more well-known names, and its fly range runs to more than 2000 flies, tied by Fulling Mill and Iain Barr. Online shopping is possible via the fishery website. Beginners and more experienced anglers can book fly casting tuition at Ellerdine and winter fly-tying courses are also available. Group bookings of the fishery are welcome.
