WELLSFIELD TROUT FISHERY
WELLSFIELD is a popular day-ticket fly and bait fishery in central Scotland. A Troutmasters water, it comprises three well-stocked lochans covering a total of 12 acres. Lochans Hearadh and Uaithne offer fly-fishing from the bank, while Lochan Fionn is a three-acre bait-fishing water. Facilities include a lodge where refreshments can be obtained, a clubhouse for club and corporate events, toilets (including disabled) and a tackle shop. Rod hire and casting tuition are available.
Fishing shelters can be found at the waterside, along with pegs with seats, disabled platforms and car access. The fishery is set in beautiful natural surroundings and fed by a spring and natural burn, which collectively ensure an abundance of natural insect and aquatic life, including nymphs, buzzers, fry, minnow, stickleback, beetles, shrimp, snails, flies, amphibians and terrestrials which encourages the trout to be free rising, even on the coldest and dullest of days (automatic ice-prevention wave machines keep Wellsfield open in winter). Buzzers, Bloodworm, nymphs (Pheasant Tail, Hare’s Ear, Damsels, Dragonfly) Cats, Fritzs, Dancers, Wagglers, emergers, dry flies and a selection of traditional wet flies all do well. The fishery is stocked up to four times weekly with rainbow, brown and blue trout from 2lb to over 20lb. A £50 tagged fish competition operates and the venue also welcomes group and corporate events.
