Take your best friend fishing
THIS IS SMITH the terrier getting ready for a day afloat on Rutland Water with his owner Nigel Savage. If you would like to take your best friend fishing this season, Anglian Water allows dogs on boats at all of its reservoirs as long as they are wearing a canine life-jacket. Dogs are not allowed ashore to cock a leg – they must pee on board. To give them a drink, water can be taken from the reservoir. Nigel recommends you take treats to occupy a bored hound if the sport is slow. This season one angler improvised when he turned up at Rutland with his dog but without a dog life-jacket. He went to his van and taped foam piping to each of his dog’s legs. Rutland warden Robbie Winram gave him ten out of ten for invention, but the dog was refused a berth. Other reservoirs that allow dogs on boats are Draycote Water and Eyebrook Reservoir (life-jacket required); and Bewl Water, Lake of Menteith and Stocks Reservoir. We recommend your dog wears a life-jacket. You must supply your own dog life-jacket. Buy from: ruffwear.co.uk, ezydog.co.uk and suffolkmarinesafety.com
"Here we go again. Hope you're going to catch more than last time."
The jacket is designed to allow Smith to paddle.
