Trout fishing is safe for the foreseeable future

this time a generator and powerwash equipment. I hope to be able to publish the breakdown of the year next month. There was pretty extraordinary bank fishing on Chew Valley Lake in November, and season ticket men were left wondering if this was their best season! Wick Green was excellent so long as the wind was favourable, and Walley Bank produced fish right up to the last day. Quite what kept those fish at Walley for so many months of the season is a mystery. Bristol University, in conjunction with Bristol Water have decided to fund a research student (post graduate) to work on the water quality on Chew and Blagdon, so, hopefully there will be some information to help explain the predominance of fish in such small areas of the lake. Overall this was a strange season with the weather probably contributing to this. We lost days at the start of the year to frost and snow; April and May were bitterly cold and wet. There were storms – with winds stronger than I can remember and we lost days and days of fishing due to the heat of July and August. I am sure that Bristol Water Fishery will have struggled to please the accountants! But, having attended a “steering group” meeting on November 22, I can report that trout fishing is safe for the foreseeable future. – MARTIN COTTIS. NOVEMBER FISHING on Blagdon Lake was reasonable considering how changeable the weather was. As in few months, the south shore of the lake was the prime place and trout continued to feed on the mass of corixa in the lake. Overall this was a decent year on Blagdon and bank anglers report that although they had the usual problems with weed in the hot spell, they had a good season. On the boats returns were encouraging, if not spectacular. However, with water as warm as it reached this season that really is no surprise. Stocking levels were decent and overall catch returns were good. Apologies that I have not been able to get hold of the final figures for the season, but office staff at the fishery have been overworked with a few incidents that have occurred at the lakes. The last one was more thefts –
