THE LAST SEASON of the US thriller Blindspot left viewers desperate for more. In an all-action finale, the evil Shepherd was thwarted in her plan to wipe out Washington DC’S political elite, and the FBI’S Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and

Jane (Jaimie Alexander) confessed their love for each other.

There was also the small matter of a two-year time jump, which found Jane living on a mountaintop with monks. For unknown reasons she’d left Weller, who she’d married, and the FBI. When Weller turned up asking for her help to find missing colleagues Zapata, Reade and Patterson, it was revealed that Jane had a new layer of mysterious tattoos that light up.

With this season’s action set to take Jane to Venice, we asked Jaimie Alexander to tell us more…

WHAT CAN YOU REVEAL ABOUT JANE AND WELLER’S RELATIONSHIP?

It’s going to be extremely complicated this season because Jane made a choice to leave him without telling him. She did it because she loved him and wanted to protect him – but a broken heart is still a broken heart.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT JANE GETTING A NEW SET OF TATTOOS?

I don’t read the scripts ahead, so everybody knew about the light-up tattoos but me. I sat down at the table read and I got to the end of the script when it was

revealed. I was like, ‘What, more? What the hell is this?’

WHAT WERE YOUR WORRIES?

I was pretty shocked and I kept thinking, ‘Okay, this is a really crazy concept.’ I wanted to know how we would keep it grounded, so it didn’t take on a superhero vibe, or something that’s just not believable. But the writers had researched a technology that essentially would make something like this possible, potentially. They certainly did their research.

DO YOU HAVE TO SPEND LONGER IN THE MAKE-UP CHAIR DUE TO THE NEW TATTOOS?

The new tattoos are CGI. In the season two finale, they strung LED lights up my arm, so I was like a walking Christmas tree. I thought that’s how it would look in the final cut, but then I realised the LED lights were just a stand-in for the CGI.

JANE’S BROTHER ROMAN, PLAYED BY LUKE MITCHELL, IS SET TO BE THIS SEASON’S BIG VILLAIN. HOW DO YOU GET ON WITH LUKE?

Weirdly, we have a lot of similar mannerisms. We don’t look the same, but there’s something about us that is definitely like brother and sister.

HOW HAS YOUR PORTRAYAL OF JANE CHANGED SINCE THE SHOW BEGAN?

I don’t know if the portrayal has really changed, but I do know I’m much more confident in the fights. It’s so ingrained in me now that I can just do it. I’m much more confident using the weapons too, without sounding too much like a psycho.

HAVE YOU DONE MUCH WEAPONS TRAINING?

We did some Navy SEAL training in New York and, because we’re idiots, we were messing around in our hotel with shotguns and assault rifles. A construction guy saw us and called the cops. Next thing we know, a SWAT team surrounded the hotel. So, the following day, we went to a military base in New Jersey. At least we couldn’t get into trouble there.
