If you have a hankering for a big dumb action movie, you could do a lot worse than this earnest adaptation of Tom Clancy’s best-selling doorstop. Ben Affleck follows in the footsteps of Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford as maverick CIA analyst Jack Ryan, here attempting to avert a war with the Russkies by proving that a nuclear bomb was sneaked onto American soil by neo-nazi terrorists (led by Alan Bates) and not the new Russian premier (Ciaran Hinds).
