Léa Seydoux and Vincent Cassel give Emma Watson and Dan Stevens a run for their money in this ravishing French adaptation of the famous fairy tale about the beautiful young woman held captive by a hirsute cursed prince. Just don’t expect to find the pair bursting into song. Seydoux and Cassel’s romance is a little too rushed for comfort, but the dazzling rendering of the Beast’s realm is enchanting – even if the film can’t match the magic of Jean Cocteau’s beguiling black-and-white 1946 screen version of the tale.
