Loosely inspired by the true story of a mixed-race woman who mingled with the aristocracy of 18th-century England, this period drama revolves around Dido Elizabeth Belle (played by Gugu Mbatha-raw), the illegitimate daughter of a Royal Navy captain and an African slave, who grew up as a ward of her great uncle (Tom Wilkinson).
