THE FINAL SHOWDOWN?
EVE AND VILLANELLE come face to face as the cat-and-mouse thriller reaches a dramatic finale
THE THIRD SERIES of Killing Eve has taken viewers on another rollercoaster ride of intrigue, madness and shocks galore. It’s also thrown up lots of questions that fans will want answered as the eighth and final episode of the thriller lands on BBC iplayer this week (episode seven airs on Sunday on BBC1 HD at 9.15pm).
Following their sexually charged fight on a London bus earlier this series, we’re due an almighty showdown between assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and her arch-rival/obsession, ex-mi6 agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh).
Sure enough, the pair soon come face to face. But what does the future hold for them? And will it be together or apart?
Meanwhile, will Konstantin (Kim Bodnia) make it out of The Twelve alive? Will Dasha (Dame Harriet Walter) get her wish and return to Russia? And, of course, will Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) finally find out who killed son Kenny?
With series four already planned, we asked Suzanne Heathcote, showrunner and lead writer for series three, to tell us more…
VILLANELLE AND EVE HAVE MOSTLY BEEN APART THIS SERIES. WAS THAT ALWAYS THE PLAN? Yes. We saw Villanelle and Eve’s relationship totally combust at the end of series two, so we felt it was important to really take that ending on board honestly and emotionally. Eve and Villanelle have both nearly killed or been killed by the other and that’s not something they can pretend hasn’t happened.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE DYNAMIC BETWEEN VILLANELLE AND EVE GOING INTO THE FINALE? It’s an addiction. The relationship is life-and-death dangerous for both of them and they know that. But no matter how hard they try, they both find themselves drawn to the other on a level neither of them has experienced with anyone else.
WE’VE LOVED THE INTRODUCTION OF DASHA. WHAT DO YOU THINK
THE CHARACTER HAS BROUGHT
TO THE SHOW? Villanelle respects Dasha, albeit begrudgingly. She knows that Dasha was the best in her day and she also knows she’s as good as she is because of what she learnt from Dasha in her early days as an assassin.
DOES VILLANELLE LEARN FROM DASHA AS SERIES THREE CONCLUDES? Dasha has great pride in her career, but there is also a warning in there somewhere for Villanelle. Does she really want a life like Dasha’s? Is that how she wants to end up?
COULD Killing Eve CONTINUE WITHOUT EVE OR VILLANELLE?
I would say anything is possible. It’s such a rich world and there are many beloved characters. That’s both the challenge and the joy.
One thing’s for sure, it will be something completely unexpected.
