Leo Doyle is a pillar of his small northern California community. A loving husband and father, he works as a guidance counsellor at the local high school and takes a genuine interest in his students’ wellbeing. Yet, as Netflix’s new drama
quickly reveals, Leo is hiding a gruesome secret. He’s a serial killer, dubbed the Russian River Killer, who terrorised his town five years earlier, murdering several young women and never getting caught.
As the series begins, the town is gripped by fear once again when a local teen is murdered, and her body dumped by the river. Has Leo given into his darkest desires and embarked on a new killing spree?

‘Both men have an intimate relationship with the mother of one of the original victims, and was once suspended from his job for assault.
‘A lot of times on TV, killers are painted one way, but here you see both sides of that person, as well as the cop who has his own problems,’ says Trammell, best-known for his roles in
and ‘Neither Leo nor Mike is totally good or totally bad. It’s complicated, and it really challenges the viewer.’
Although is set in California, it was filmed in Australia, which allowed Trammell to indulge his passion for surfing in his spare time.
‘We were filming in and around Sydney and the northern beaches, and I was just blown away – it was stunningly beautiful,’ he says. ‘I’d go surfing every week and got a lot of good exercise. Sydney is a very inspiring, outdoor place. It makes you want to get out and be active.’
