Dancing WITH DEATH
A STRANGE NEW DRUG that makes people deliriously happy, teenagers who go missing for days and return home acting strangely, and two investigators determined to uncover the truth… That’s the intriguing premise of Syfy’s new alien invasion thriller, Spides.
DISAPPEARANCES
Set in modern-day Berlin, the eight-part series follows Nora Berger (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers) as she wakes up after days in a coma without any memory of who she is or what happened to her.
All she knows is what she is told – that she was found unconscious outside a club named Rapture.
Meanwhile, narcotics cop David Leonhart (Legends of Tomorrow’s
Falk Hentschel) and missing persons investigator Nique Navar (Florence Kasumba) team up to look into the numerous young clubgoers who have disappeared after taking a synthetic party drug named Blis – a liquid eye drop that makes users feel blissfully happy as their eyes turn sparkly and purple.
As Nora tries to piece together what has happened to her after she took Blis at the club, she starts to unravel a conspiracy between the manufacturers of the drug and insect-like aliens intent on invading and taking over Earth by using humans as host bodies.
‘Spides has a huge alien conspiracy theme,’ says writer Rainer Matsutani. ‘When I was a kid, I saw Invasion of the Body Snatchers and it had a big influence on me. I was fascinated with people returning home who had completely changed.’
