JONATHAN MAJORS AND JURNEE SMOLLETT-BELL star in a terrifying 1950s-set horror

-

THERE ARE THRILLS and chills on their way in Sky Atlantic’s nail-biting new supernatural drama Lovecraft Country, airing later this year.

Based on Matt Ruff ’s 2016 novel and inspired by HP Lovecraft’s classic horror stories, the 10-part series is set in America in the 1950s. It centres on pulp novel fan and Korean War veteran Atticus Black, played by When We Rise’s Jonathan Majors, as he sets off on an action-packed road trip across the country to find his missing father, Montrose Freeman (Michael Kenneth Williams).

Accompanying him are his spirited artist friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-bell) and his caring, adventure-loving uncle George (Courtney B Vance).

TERROR

But the trio soon face horrifying challenges as they become embroiled with deadly monsters and strange and disturbing occurrences while also trying to deal with the dangerous tensions of racial segregation.

The series, created by Underground’s Misha Green and executive produced by Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams, also sees Wunmi Mosaku co-star as Letitia’s hustler half-sister, Ruby. Meanwhile, Aunjanue Ellis is George’s wife, Hippolyta, and Abbey Lee is manipulative Christina Braithwhite, whose domineering father, Samuel

(Tony Goldwyn), heads up a sinister secret order known as the Sons of Adam.

‘The characters deal with the metaphorical monsters of their past to confront physical ones in their present,’ teases Green.
