BATTLE OF THE BRITS

JAMIE MURRAY on his exciting new tennis tournament…

-

From Tuesday, Amazon Prime Video

LIVE TOP-CLASS tennis returns to our screens for the first time in several weeks when Sir Andy Murray competes in a special six-day tournament that has been organised by his brother Jamie.

Staged behind closed doors at the Lawn Tennis Association’s headquarters in Roehampton, the Battle of the Brits will see eight of the UK’S leading men’s players competing in singles and doubles, with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together.

As well as the Murrays, the likes of British No.1 Dan Evans, Kyle Edmund and Cameron Norrie will also be in action. We spoke to Jamie, 34, to find out more…

THERE ARE SOME TOP PLAYERS COMPETING. WHO IS YOUR TIP TO DO WELL?

Dan Evans made an amazing start to the year and was up at a career-high ranking, so I guess he’s favourite, but Kyle Edmund won a tournament in New York a few months back as well. Andy hasn’t played this year, so it’s tough to start him as favourite against guys who have 30 matches under their belt.

HOW’S ANDY’S RECOVERY FROM HIP SURGERY GOING?

He won a title in Belgium last autumn, but had a little setback at the end of 2019. He’s been practising and I’m sure he’s looking forward to getting on the court again.

HOW STRANGE WILL IT BE PLAYING WITHOUT THE FANS?

You’d always choose to play in front of fans, as the atmosphere created on the court is what makes it special, but I’m sure

we’ll soon get used to it.

WHAT OTHER CHANGES HAVE YOU BEEN FORCED TO MAKE?

We’ll be social distancing and players may well have to take tests. There will be umpires, but there won’t be any line judges, so all

the calls will be done by Hawk-eye. Also, if players smash the ball, they’ll have to go and get it themselves!
