FANS OF TOM CLANCY won’t want to miss out on this action-packed movie based on another character from the author’s Jack Ryan universe.
Without Remorse stars Michael B Jordan as John Kelly, an elite Navy SEAL who uncovers an international conspiracy when his pregnant wife, Pam, is killed by Russian assassins.
Kelly narrowly survives the attack and is told his wife’s murder was revenge for a mission he led in Syria, where his team rescued a CIA operative taken by ex-russian military forces. But as the Navy SEAL sets out to get payback, he stumbles upon a secret plot that could lead to all-out war between Moscow and Washington.
‘John realises he’s involved in something big,’ says Jordan. ‘He finds himself caught between personal honour and loyalty to his country.’
US politician Clay (Guy Pearce) orders fellow SEAL Karen Greer (Jodie Turner-smith) and shadowy CIA agent Robert Ritter (Jamie Bell) to join Kelly on his mission to Russia.
‘I thought it would be cool to play a woman so intelligent, strong and driven,’ says Turner-smith, who’ll next be seen in Channel 5’s Anne Boleyn.
‘The rules matter to Karen, but she also has a big heart, and that’s what ties her and John together.’
Their hunt leads them to Murmansk, where Pam’s last surviving killer, Victor Rykov (Brett Gelman) is in hiding. As the bullets start to fly, Kelly and his compatriots begin to wonder exactly who they can trust.
The explosive story outlines the backstory of John Clark, the identity that Kelly later adopts.
‘This was an exciting opportunity to dive into the character,’ explains Jordan, who’s already signed on to continue the story in follow-up film Rainbow Six. ‘We’re looking forward to growing this thing into a franchise.’
Although Jordan did most of his own stunts, Turner-smith had to be more careful.
‘I was pregnant at the time so I couldn’t always do those things,’ reveals Turner-smith, who is married to The Affair actor Joshua Jackson. ‘They say whatever you’re doing when you’re pregnant affects the baby, so I wonder what impact all the gunfire, jumping in and out of helicopters will have on her temperament!’
