Traditional stereotypes are cannily inverted in Anna Kerrigan’s gender-curious Western, in which a deadbeat father with mental-health issues (Steve Zahn) goes on the lam with his 11-year-old child so the latter can be who he wants. Combining adventures on horseback with a fitfully pulse-quickening manhunt and perhaps too many flashbacks, the result is an effective vehicle for an uncommonly serious Zahn.
