BRITISH CYCLISTS SIMON YATES and Alex Dowsett are among the riders as the first Grand Tour of the season starts in Turin with a 9km time trial on Saturday. This year’s Giro is packed with six mountain finishes and almost 47,000m of climbing, something that should suit former Tour de France winner Egan Bernal. The Colombian has been selected by Ineos Grenadiers over Britain’s Tao Geoghegan Hart, who won last year’s race to become only the second British rider to claim the title. The event runs until 30 May.
