Trouble and strife
Married comedians JON RICHARDSON AND LUCY BEAUMONT invite the cameras into their new home
COMEDY
Meet the Richardsons
Thursday, Dave HD, 10pm
COMEDIANS JON RICHARDSON and Lucy Beaumont are back this week for a third season of their mockumentary
Meet the Richardsons on Dave.
The hit comedy portrays an exaggerated version of the couple’s real-life marriage as they raise their daughter Elsie – and we rejoin the family as they move from Hebden Bridge to a new home in Leeds.
As always, there’ll be plenty of celebrity guests, including Melinda Messenger, Gabby Logan and Line
of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, while this week’s episode sees David Tennant and wife Georgia invite Jon and Lucy over for dinner.
We caught up with the couple to find out more…
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE
NEW SERIES?
LUCY We’ve moved to a big, shiny, vulgar modern home in Leeds, like a footballer’s WAG’S house.
JON The move has put us on the back foot. We have gone from being the powerful ones in the valley to somewhere where the neighbours are taller and richer than us.
JON, DO YOU MISS THE
BACK-GARDEN PUB,
THE DOG, YOU HAD AT
YOUR OLD HOUSE?
JON In this series, I buy a replacement actual pub, so that softens the blow. But I miss The Dog every day.
LUCY Buying the pub is a ridiculous idea. You don’t need to buy a real pub just for you to sit and drink in. A pub should have a landlord and a closing time and you should have to travel to it. That’s normal.
TELL US ABOUT THE GUEST STARS…
LUCY Jed Mercurio tweeted he liked the show, so we instantly messaged him. Then Georgia Tennant said she was a fan. If anyone shows any interest, we write
something for them!
YOU HAVE DINNER WITH
DAVID AND GEORGIA
TENNANT IN EPISODE
ONE. WHO WOULD
ATTEND YOUR DREAM
DINNER PARTY?
JON If I’m allowed to resurrect people, I would love to invite Rik Mayall. And I’d like Rick Stein as a guest, although he’d be disappointed with my vegan offerings.
LUCY I’d have Tutankhamen.
LUCY ALSO GOES TO HOLLYWOOD IN
THIS SERIES. DO YOU HAVE ANY
FEELINGS OF JEALOUSY, JON?
JON I’m quite happy for Lucy to take on the world. But I’m going downhill on the other side, so it won’t be long before I’m recording 3,000 episodes of a quiz a week in an airport hangar somewhere.
IN THE SHOW, SOMEONE DESCRIBES
YOU AS ‘THE NEW MEL AND SUE’.
WHAT DOUBLE ACT DO YOU THINK
YOU ARE MOST LIKE?
LUCY Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. That’s the dream, to be like them.
JON The Hairy Bikers.
