TOM’S RED NOSE CHALLENGE
DOCUMENTARY Tom Daley’s Hell of a Homecoming
Monday, BBC1 HD, 9pm
MUCH-NEEDED LAUGHS are on their way as Red Nose Day returns on BBC1 with more comedy and charity fundraising for Comic Relief.
Sir Lenny Henry will co-host Friday’s telethon live from Salford alongside Zoe Ball, Alesha
Dixon, Paddy Mcguinness and David Tennant, with a variety of spectacular sketches and musical performances on the bill. Meanwhile, in BBC1 documentary
Tom Daley’s Hell of a Homecoming on Monday, the Olympic gold-medal-winning diver undertakes a gruelling Comic Relief challenge as he spends four days cycling, rowing, swimming and running from London to his home town of Plymouth in Devon.
Here, 27-year-old Daley reveals all... WHY DID YOU WANT TO TAKE PART? I remember growing up and seeing the Red Nose challenges and how much money was raised. Just to be included in the list of names that have done it
felt like an honour.
WAS IT TOUGH? It hadn’t dawned on me how far London to Plymouth was! I’ve never pushed myself to those extreme limits of what my body can achieve. There were moments nearly every day that I struggled.
HOW DID IT COMPARE TO YOUR
OLYMPICS TRAINING? I’ve trained for four Olympics and none of it comes close in comparison. I’ve been completely out of my comfort zone.
WHAT WERE THE MOST MEMORABLE
MOMENTS? Falling in the Thames while rowing and falling off my bike! Also, meeting amazing people and getting emotional.
SO MANY PEOPLE CAME OUT ALONG
THE WAY TO SUPPORT YOU. DID THAT
HELP? My personal highlight was cycling through towns where people were cheering. That really helped.
TOM DALEY is among the stars doing their bit for Comic Relief
