BATTLE OF THE BAFTAS
AWARDS BAFTA Film Awards Sunday, BBC1 HD, 7pm
THE GREAT AND the good of the movie world will be gathering at London’s Royal Albert Hall this Sunday for the 75th BAFTA Film Awards.
While last year’s event was virtual, this year’s ceremony, hosted by Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson, will be an in-person affair. Comedian Tom Allen and presenter AJ Odudu will be on the red carpet and their interviews with the stars will be live on the BAFTA social-media channels.
We caught up with Allen,
38, to learn more…
ARE YOU EXCITED TO BE PART OF
THE BAFTAS? Yes, after the last couple of years, we want showbiz glamour and razzledazzle. Everybody’s so keen to celebrate everything that’s been achieved in film over the past year.
WHAT DO YOU THINK REBEL WILSON
WILL BRING AS THIS YEAR’S HOST? She’s going to be brilliant. She’s so funny and has that devil-may-care attitude, so she’ll bring mischief to things.
WHICH STARS ARE YOU LOOKING
FORWARD TO CHATTING TO? It would be great to chat to Lady Gaga or Leonardo Dicaprio, and wouldn’t it be a thrill to be able to say hello to Dame Judi Dench?
WILL SMITH AND LEONARDO
DICAPRIO ARE BOTH UP FOR
LEADING ACTOR. THAT’S A TOUGH
CATEGORY, ISN’T IT? There are some very strong contenders
and they’re all great. Stephen Graham [nominated for
Boiling Point] is a favourite of mine – he’s one of those great actors who’s very natural and not aloof and starry.
HAVE YOU WATCHED MANY OF THE
BEST FILM NOMINEES? I really enjoyed Licorice Pizza because I love director Paul Thomas Anderson and it’s unusual and joyful. And
Belfast is an incredible story that hasn’t been told often enough. The
Power of the Dog is a great film, too.
DO YOU HAVE ANY BUGBEARS WHEN
YOU GO TO THE CINEMA? I’m very strict. I don’t like eating, I don’t like drinking, I don’t want to hear any slurps! I went to see The Personal
History of David Copperfield and some teenagers started messing around. I put on a cockney voice and shouted, ‘Oi, shut it!’ And they all walked out. So I won!
Who will take home a gong at this year’s FILM AWARDS?
