THIS HITCHCOCK-STYLE THRILLER stars Jesse Plemons as an unnamed tech billionaire and Lily Collins as his wife, who arrive at their holiday mansion to find that it’s being robbed by a lone burglar.

It soon transpires that the robber, played by Jason Segel, isn’t just after their cash, but also has a personal grudge against the couple.

‘The robber is a guy who is feeling how a lot of us feel – nothing makes sense and nothing is fair,’ says Segel, who came up with the story. ‘During the pandemic, as we’re told the whole world was struggling, we were also watching billionaires get richer and richer. There was a sense of people not knowing what to grab onto. So I think that’s what motivates my character.’

The film was partly inspired by the COVID pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns.

‘What’s interesting about this particular story coming out of this moment is the feeling of being imprisoned in your own home,’ says director Charlie Mcdowell. ‘All of us picture our home as a haven from the outside world. What if that space doesn’t feel safe any more?’

As the couple – and the robber – deal with the shocking and disturbing events, they are affected in very different ways while trying to outwit each other and survive.

‘The story really exposes all three characters,’ explains Collins. ‘We’re all flawed, and the story starts to unearth how those flaws come about and how none of us are innocent.’

The Emily in Paris star is married to the film’s director Charlie Mcdowell, but says she wasn’t automatically given the part.

‘He made me sweat for a little while,’ she laughs. ‘I didn’t know if I was going to be involved. They treated me like any other actress that was vying for the role.’
