A SCHOOL CLASSROOM might not sound as romantic as the Love Island villa, but Prime Video’s Lovestruck High is a dating show like no other.

The series invites a diverse group of Uk-based singles to enrol at an educational institution modelled on the US high schools portrayed in countless classic films – in the hope of finding ‘the one’ among their new classmates.

With narration from teen movie queen Lindsay Lohan, the series follows the 15 students as they attend classes, hang out in the cafeteria, and pursue their crushes, with a $100,000 prize on offer for the couple crowned Prom Royalty at the end.

MENTORING ROLES

Lovestruck High’s faculty consists of Principal Nelson (Ria Lina), Coach Hughes (Russell Hicks) and Miss Kelly (Chloe Zeitounian). All will be on duty throughout to guide and inspire the students, as well as making sure they behave themselves.

‘I drew on a lot of really supportive teachers that I had as a student – and the ones I thought weren’t very nice,’ says Zeitounian. ‘So that was at the forefront of my mind – student welfare first, make them feel comfortable.’

For many of the contestants, appearing on the show wasn’t just a chance to find love, it was also an opportunity to relive their school years on better terms – whether they were bullied, shy, or even still in the closet the first time around.

‘That was wonderful,’ says Zeitounian. ‘I feel like they relished things – they would walk into a school dance and you would see them feeling beautiful. It was really wholesome in a way I didn’t expect a reality dating show to be.’
