NEW SUPERHEROES join the fray as The Boys returns for more explosive action
The Boys, THE brilliantly subversive and satirical fantasy drama that goes where other superhero sagas fear to tread, returns for a third series this week.
As we rejoin the show, The Boys – a gang of vigilantes intent on exposing corrupt celebrity superheroes The Seven – have gone their separate ways.
DEADLY DRUG
Foul-mouthed leader Butcher (Karl Urban) is spending time with his dead wife’s son, who was fathered by evil Homelander (Antony Starr).
Meanwhile, ex-military medic Mother’s Milk has returned to his family, and munitions expert Frenchie and superterrorist Kimiko are building a life together.
Superhero Starlight and civilian Hughie, whose girlfriend was killed by Seven member A-train, have decided to give their relationship a chance, with Hughie taking a job working for Congresswoman Neuman.
But Hughie is unaware that Neuman is a secret ‘supe’, and responsible for the deadly attack on Congress during an investigation into the Vought corporation and its creation of superheroes using the drug Compound V.
Vought’s latest bid to militarise its superheroes sees CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) pitching a new version of Compound V, which gives users superpowers for 24 hours, thus creating a raft of temporary supes.
Among them is Butcher, who finds himself with special powers after taking the drug.
And he’s not the only new supe we meet this series. Many of the supes in The Boys are a sly nod to Marvel’s
Avengers and DC
Comics’ Justice League, and latest arrival Soldier
Boy (Jensen Ackles), who’s a former associate of the now limbless Stormfront, looks like being a diabolical version of Captain America.
Will he pose a threat to The
Boys? And will the vigilante group be able to bring The Seven to justice?
