Endless love?
Star Heida Reed on Elizabeth’s love tussle over Ross, corsets and being a ‘frequent idiot’ on social media
drama s the elegant Elizabeth Poldark, leading lady of Trenwith estate, it’s only right that Heida Reed gets to wear the most beautiful vintage frocks on the 18th-century Cornish block in BBC1 hit Poldark.
But looking this fabulous comes at a price: a super-tight and super-heavy corset!
‘I call it Cruella,’ laughs
Heida (pronounced ‘Hay-da’), 28, when TV Times visits her on set.
‘It takes 10-15 minutes just to put it on, and I keep it done up throughout the day. I can’t ask for it to be loosened because that would mean having to take everything off, which is just too time consuming.

On screen, Heida says that series two is definitely darker – ‘it feels more intense’. Elizabeth’s currently struggling after the death of her husband Francis, but George Warleggan is only too happy to play her knight in shining armour. And, of course, there’s the ongoing love triangle between her first love, Francis’s cousin and our hero, Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) and his feisty wife Demelza.
Their lives have taken different paths, but as we all know Elizabeth has never accepted it’s over with Ross…
‘No, she doesn’t think that,’ says Heida. ‘I think what she’s feeling is very natural. I think it happens to a lot of people. You might be content with your situation, but you wouldn’t like to lose the adoration of that person you knew who meant so much to you.’
This week Elizabeth’s at the centre of the drama again. We’ve been sworn to secrecy – sorry – but we promise that Poldark fans won’t want to miss a second….
In real life, Heida’s even more glamorous than her character. She can often be seen gracing the red carpets of prestigious fashion shows in designer gowns (for events, she prefers her ‘dresses
