Martin’s passion for wildlife began during his childhood in Bristol, when his father encouraged him to explore the countryside.

When Martin left university with a degree in Zoology, his grandmother said, ‘Well done, now which zoo are you going to work for?’

Martin refers to himself as the ‘third element’ in the Springwatch team: ‘They’re real showbusiness, while I know my place. I’m the approachable get-down-and-dirty one.’
