A special night for movie lovers at the Royal Albert Hall
music / 8.00pm / BBC4
In any discussion about the best film music of
all time – psycho to one side (which was Bernard Herrmann) – John Williams’s work is right up there. Those two ominous notes of jaws alone qualify him as one of the greats. But there’s also star Wars, ET, raiders of the Lost Ark, jurassic park, superman and the Harry Potter films to add to the tally. It’s a body of work that has won Williams five Oscars, 23 Grammys and seven BAFTAS. In this Prom (recorded last night), the BBC Concert Orchestra plays a wide selection of the composer’s finest compositions in his 85th year, and long-time colleague Keith Lockhart conducts. With a baton, we assume, not a lightsaber. HHHH sm
