Taking a break from playing grumpy Doc martin, martin Clunes is all smiles as he picks up yet another tv times award. ‘I can’t believe it! Your loyalty is incredibly flattering,’ he beams. ‘I’ve got a very small trophy cabinet at home and there’s a whole shelf dedicated to these babies!’

martin has a busy 2018 ahead, filming a new sitcom pilot for the BBC, islands of america for ITV and a new ITV adaptation of classic novel vanity Fair. He’ll also take on his most challenging role yet, playing Colin sutton, the man who put milly

Dowler’s killer behind bars.

‘It’s an enormous responsibility,’ he says, ‘but it’s a story worth telling.

It’s about an incredible policeman whose dogmatic and thorough approach stopped an awful man.’

But before that it’s time to get festive. ‘we love Christmas, that’s the only reason we have a big house!’ laughs martin. ‘I wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new Year. I hope you can bear to wait until 2019 for more Doc Martin!’
