100 Years Younger in 21 Days

TUESDAY / ITV

I’m intrigued by this series, which sees stars, including June Brown, Claire King and Sherrie Hewson (she’s busy!), try bizarre methods to see if they can collectively take 100 years off their ages. Claire tried cow pee shampoo. I’ll stick to Wash & Go!

NEW LIFESTYLE 100 Years Younger in 21 Days

TUESDAY / ITV / 9.00Pm

Is it really possible to shave years off your age without surgery? Eight famous faces are trying to do just that in ITV’S four-part series, 100 Years Younger in 21 Days, in which they go to a clinic on the island of Sardinia, home to one of the world’s oldest populations.

The celebrities are scientifically assessed to see how their body, face and brain ages compare to their real ages. They then undergo a strict exercise and diet regime, and some quirky youth-boosting treatments, in an attempt to collectively reduce their test scores by a century.

Here, two soap legends, Eastenders favourite June Brown, 91, and former Emmerdale and Corrie star Claire King, 55, tell

TV Times how they got on…

What was the appeal for you? June: I’ve always been fit and active and tried to have a good diet, but I was underweight so I wanted to feel stronger. Sardinia was lovely; they live in a more simple society and that’s the key to longevity.

Claire: I liked that the clinic was anti-surgery. I wasn’t a happy bunny with my scores, but this has reaffirmed my belief that you can embrace getting older, but try to help your body along. What was the toughest part of the regime? June: We joked that it was like Alcatraz! I was fine for the first few days, but then I hurt my back so I couldn’t do a lot of exercises, which made me cross. We wore watches to show the steps we’d taken and I kept saying to Sid Owen [June’s former Eastenders co-star], ‘Put your watch on me so I can have your steps!’ I also refused to give up smoking; it’s one of my only pleasures. Claire: There were times when it felt like they were saying, ‘We are going to whip, thrash and starve you!’ But I didn’t find the diet hard because I live partly in Spain so have a Mediterranean diet anyway. When we detoxed I didn’t get grumpy, but Russell Grant hated it!

What was your most memorable treatment?

June: I didn’t have face peels because the facial doctor said to me, ‘I wouldn’t do anything to your face.’ That was nice, unless he felt it

The strangest thing was having a coffee enema!

CLAIRE KING

Soap legends June Brown and Claire King on defying the ageing process with some, ahem, interesting treatments…

was past repair! I did have a facial, though, where you put wee on a flannel and wipe it over your face. I’m better off with my face cream! Claire: Bill Roache [Claire’s former Corrie co-star, aka Ken Barlow, is a surprise guest] was good at teaching us meditation, but the strangest thing was having a coffee enema. I said, ‘I’m not doing that on TV!’ But then I thought, ‘Let’s see if it works.’ I even used cow pee shampoo, but I knew that wouldn’t work! It seems like you all got on, did that help? June: Yes, there was no competition. Everybody wanted to improve and was very helpful. We tried learning Italian, but I struggled to see the pictures held up. Sherrie Hewson and I had great fun over that. Claire: Laughter kept us going and we’d have a little social session each night. Shaun Ryder was the rebel!
