Bob and Laurel get passionate at her place – unaware that Brenda’s on her way round …

After everything that Laurel’s been through recently with husband Ashley’s dementia and subsequent death, it seems only fair that her next love interest should be a decent, honourable man, worthy of her affections.

But you can’t have everything, and she’s got Bob Hope instead.

Try as she might, Laurel can’t bury her feelings for the cavorting café owner, and this week sees the pair indulging in a steamy snog in her kitchen. But as they’re getting passionate amongst the pots and pans, little do they realise that Bob’s other half, Brenda, is on her way round.

It’s obvious that the pair are going to end up locking lips, judging by the chemistry between them at the church earlier. Laurel is upset that Ashley’s window has been smashed, and when Bob tries to fix it, there’s a ‘moment’ between them.

‘The new vicar, Rhys, doesn’t like the window at all,’ reveals Charlotte Bellamy, the actress who plays Laurel, ‘he thinks it’s crass and gaudy. But of course, it means so much to Laurel.

‘Perhaps it signifies the smashing of her relationship and the fact that she’s moving on from Ashley. But ultimately, it’s a moment of Bob coming to her rescue. He cares very much about how she feels, because she’s becoming more and more important to him.’

Bob’s feelings for Laurel are brought further into focus when she’s involved in an accident. Jimmy King, who can’t seem to do anything right, reverses his truck straight into her. Bob’s devastated when he finds out, fearing the worst.

Things aren’t as bad as they could be, and Laurel escapes with a broken arm. But the incident makes Bob realise just how much she means to him.

‘When Bob finds out that it’s just a broken arm,’ explains Charlotte, ‘he has to go and see her, to express how he’s feeling – and she admits that she feels exactly the same. There are fireworks… but what they don’t know is that Brenda is walking up the path!’

Oblivious to what’s going on, Brenda is trying to find her other half, and an equally unaware Doug has pointed her in the direction of Mulberry Cottage, having seen his friend go in there. As Brenda pushes the door open, ‘Baurel’ are getting down to business. Will she catch them in the act?
