Karma to come...

Sefton (Trust Me, Delicious) reveals what’s in store…

- Sean Marland

so, dan, tell us all about the new series…

Last year was about English doctor Ruby Walker [Amrita] finding her feet in this strange place and this series is about her discovering her past. She heads to a tea plantation with Dr Gabriel Varma [James Floyd], which is a new location for us. Getting away from the coast and into the hills for a bit gives us a whole new perspective.

this is generally a feel-good show, but will it be revealing a harder edge this series?

It had quite a hard edge last year, but no one seemed to notice! Ultimately, it’s a warm-hearted series with lots of colour, but we don’t shy away from the tougher medical aspects that come with living in that part of the world. It’s about finding the right balance.

What’s in store for amanda’s character, dr lydia Fonseca? Amanda and I spoke about Lydia and her backstory at length, so

that will be one of the storylines we explore this time, along with her relationship with Greg [Neil]. Amanda’s a great actress and she really connected with the character. Writing the second series was so much easier, because I had Amanda in my head while I was writing!

You’re a doctor yourself. how do you fit that in with your writing? Fortunately, lots of my shows have been

recommissioned, so I’m actually taking a break from my practice this year because I have so much going on! [Sky One drama]

Delicious has been confirmed for a third series, [Dave sitcom] Porters is coming back and we’re also doing another series of

Trust Me for BBC1.

Jodie Whittaker is off doing Doctor Who, so we’re doing a completely different story, but we haven’t done casting yet.
