And larger than life. So why has Big Mo said she’s dead?

All hail the queen of leopard print! Kat Moon is back in Albert Square, and considering she’s supposed to be brown bread, she’s in pretty good nick. In fact, she’s looking much like the mouthy mare who first rocked up in Walford 18 years ago. Gone are the mumsy outfits she was sporting in the Redwater spin-off last year, and in their place proper Kat clobber.

‘I’ve got the cleavage out, the red lips, the red nail varnish, the leopard print – I love it!’ laughs Jessie Wallace, who’s now enjoying her third stint on the soap.

But how will Stacey react when she finds out that her cousin is still alive? Sure, there’ll be a few tears, but there’ll no doubt be plenty of shartin’ too. The troubled mum’s world was turned upside-down last week when Big Mo arrived with news of Kat’s ‘death’. Was it all just a heartless scam?

As the week kicks off, Mo is sticking to her story, and when she announces that Kat’s body is being sent over from Ireland, Stacey makes it her mission to give her cousin a good send-off. She and Mo visit Jay at the funeral parlour, then ask the locals if they’ll chip in with the costs. Ian Beale is the first port of call but he’s hardly whipping out his chequebook, and merely offers to help with the catering. The Carters are more forthcoming, and agree to hold the wake for free.

Stacey’s estranged hubby, Martin, is keen to help out, but when Stace comes home and finds him in the house, chatting to Mo, she instinctively chucks him out. She’s guilt-ridden when she discovers he’d come over with an idea to raise cash for the funeral, and pays him a visit to apologise. Are tensions between the warring couple about to thaw?

The grieving locals soon decide to hold a fundraising night at The Vic in Kat’s memory. But as plans gather apace, Mo’s looking shifty, and she snaps at Jay when he reveals that he’s secured a free coffin for Kat’s funeral. The plot thickens when Stacey’s mum, Jean, turns up and drops a bombshell.

It all becomes clear that Mo’s been telling porkies when Kat later steps out of a cab. She has no idea that her old friends and neighbours think she’s passed away until she spots a poster, advertising the bash to celebrate her life.

‘She basically turns up at her own wake, and she’s got all the damage to clear up that Mo has caused by saying she’s dead,’ says Jessie.

What will Big Mo have to say for herself ? And another thing… Where the devil is Alfie?
