We’re over!
David suddenly dumps Shona when he can’t cope with her questions…
Shona knows David well enough to know when he’s not himself, and his behaviour at the moment tells her that something’s definitely wrong.
But when she tackles him about it, the crimper leaves her stunned by ending their relationship.
She doesn’t realise that her boyfriend’s going through hell after being raped by Josh. No doubt she’d be full of support if David told her what had happened, but he’d rather lose the woman he loves than speak up about his assault.
David’s been distant and snappy since the attack, and Shona’s also aware that their sex life isn’t what it was. So, at the start of the week, she tries to get things back on track and asks David to join her in bed. He tells her to head off upstairs and says he’ll follow on, but then grabs his coat and leaves.
The next day, Shona’s hurt to see he’s slept on the sofa, and tells him to stop messing her about.
‘She doesn’t know what’s going on,’ says Julia Goulding, who plays her. ‘She’s asking the questions that anyone would. Is it her? Is it him? She loves him, but she’s at a loss over what to do.’
It’s not just memories of the attack that haunt David. He’s worried he may have HIV. He visits an STI clinic, and gives them Gary’s name, but when the doctor asks about his recent sexual history, he scarpers.
Back at the house, Shona’s about to walk out when David makes a passionate move on her. Afterwards, she demands answers as to why he’s blowing hot and cold, but David can’t give her any, and tells her to leave.
A devastated Shona moves in with Roy. She’s hopeful that she and David can work things out when he asks her to meet her in The Rovers, but he just wants to give her the rest of her stuff.
David, meanwhile, worries when Josh gets pally with Chesney, and says he’s going to report the assault. Josh then flirts with Alya, and tells David that getting a girlfriend will make his accusation less believable.
Will he keep David silent? And are Alya and Chesney in danger?
