The BBC Young musician competition has been running for an incredible 40 years (a special tribute documentary, Forty Years Young, airs on Tuesday, BBC4). Tonight kicks off coverage of this year’s category finals, beginning with the strings. Host Josie D’arby is joined by 1998 finalist Alison Balsam to present the highlights.
