Mary and Tracy are in for a shock when they visit him at work
Jude Appleton, a marine biologist? The way things are looking, it’s just as likely that he’s a professional snake charmer or a professor of wing walking. He looked dodgier than an obstacle course when he told Mary and Angie that he’d landed a research-assistant post, and it was obvious he was lying when, as they celebrated his ‘success’, he took a mysterious phone call.
Question is, will he be rumbled? Well, it looks that way when Mary and Tracy turn up at his workplace.
Mary’s long-lost son is shifty from the off this week. He refuses to talk about his new job, which is frustrating for Mary, who’s as proud as punch of his achievements. In a bid to connect, she decides to learn more about marine life – much to Tracy’s annoyance, who’s bored to death at the florist’s as her assistant drones on about all things fishy. Not only that, Jude shows a distinct lack of knowledge about the marine-biology magazines he has collected from The Kabin. This time, Tracy Barlow’s on hand, and no one can pull the wool over her eyes. She’s instantly suspicious of Jude, and when Mary says that she and Angie are going to surprise him at work and take him for lunch, she insists on tagging along.
Angie’s busy on the phone when they arrive at the marine centre, and stays outside to finish her call. As Mary and Tracy go inside, the pair are stunned by what they see. Could Jude be flipping burgers in the cafe? And if he is, will Mary and Tracy keep his big secret from his wife?
