Gemma’s beau fakes an accident to swindle money out of Johnny and Jenny
Just when we were starting to forget that Gemma’s boyfriend, Henry, once dated her for a bet, posh boy shows his terribly naughty side again. He needs to find a huge stack of cash and, having been cut off from his trust fund, he sets his mind on stealing the money from Gemma’s nearest and dearest.
Getting his hands on the readies is, Henry believes, a matter of life and death. Accosted by a couple of heavies, he’s told that he must pay back former fiancée Cressida’s family the £20k they forked out for the wedding… or else. As he’s working as a barman and paper boy, Halley’s Comet will have put in another appearance before he’s saved up the cash.
‘Henry has the kind of background where he’s never wanted for anything, and this is the first time he’s been in a situation and can’t buy his way out of it,’ explains star George Banks.
At first, Henry sets his sights on stealing a £15k cheque from Rita that he’s seen her putting in a drawer. But he later comes up with a different plan when working at the Rovers. The place is packed for Johnny and Jenny’s big relaunch, and when they send him to the cellar to change a barrel, he flings himself down the stairs, and then reveals he has a broken arm and is going to sue for damages.
‘It’s done out of desperation,’ adds George. ‘Up until this point, there have been plenty of opportunities to get his hands on the money that Henry hasn’t taken, and this is the last resort.’
A compo claim is the last thing Jenny and Johnny need. But whose side will Gemma be on?
