Gemma Winter’s madly in love with Henry Newton, whom she believes is her Prince Charming. And even when her Prince became a pauper, it didn’t dampen her ardour for the former heir to the Newton and Ridley brewery empire. The loveable loudmouth has a big decision to make when she finds out that her fella is scamming Johnny and Jenny.
Henry’s vying to sue the new owners of the Rovers for a ‘fall’ he supposedly had in the pub cellar. He needs the cash to pay back former fiancé Cressida’s parents for the £20,000 they forked out for the aborted wedding. Gemma believes his broken arm is the real deal, but when Rita mentions that she caught Henry rifling through her flat, she suspects something is afoot, and confronts her other half, who admits that his injury is fake.
Gemma’s horrified, as she knows that Johnny and Jenny weren’t fully insured when the ‘accident’ happened – meaning a compo claim could leave them bankrupt. But when Henry points out that his life in danger, she naturally fears for his safety. Where will her loyalties lie?
Meanwhile, it’s not just her own love life that’s on Gemma’s agenda this week – she also tries to sort out Liz’s when she realises that her fellow barmaid is nursing a broken heart. Unfortunately, she wrongly believes that Mike is the man Liz is pining for.
Steve then panics when he realises that Gemma’s planning to contact the ex teacher, and alerts his mum, who orders her not to bother. How long till canny Gemma twigs that it’s Johnny who has left Liz in a stew?
