Jean tells the Slaters that Hayley’s pregnant – but Stacey thinks Martin is the daddy…
Hayley denies that Martin is the father, but Stacey isn’t sure she can believe her…
Hayley Slater took a big risk when she confided in Jean that she was pregnant. Asking her dithering aunt to keep quiet was like asking Shirley Carter to go teetotal. Unsurprisingly, Jean ends up blabbing to the faarmly this week, who are no doubt going to bombard the mum-to-be with a barrage of questions, including the all-important ‘Who’s the favva?’
Still, Hayley’s secret was going to get out sooner rather than later. Baby bumps are a beggar to conceal in skinny jeans and leggings. On top of that, Jean is no longer the only one in the know – Stacey finds out this week.
The mum-of-three realises that something’s going on when she spots Jean in the market, returning a babygrow that she’d bought as a gift for Hayles, who has insisted she take it back. Jean lies to her daughter that the garment was for Kim, but her story doesn’t really add up. Hayley steps in and makes a deal with Kim to lie on their behalf – only to then come a cropper…
‘Jean tells Hayley that she’ll alter her clothes for her,’ reveals our Walford mole. ‘But as she takes some measurements in the front room, Stacey walks in and can’t help but see Hayley’s bump.’
As Jean urges a shocked Stacey to keep quiet, talk soon turns to who has got Hayley in the family way. Jean already knows he is married, and plants a worrying seed in Stacey’s mind – could the daddy be Martin?
‘Stacey panics that Jean’s right – after all, Hayley and Martin had a few dates,’ adds our mole. ‘She corners Kush to see if he knows anything, and when she reaches a dead end, she confronts Hayley outright, who denies that Martin is the father – but Stacey isn’t sure.’
As Stacey pushes her cousin for answers, Hayley decides to leave Walford, prompting Jean to tell everyone her niece is in the club. Will Kat latch on to the truth and twig that the nipper is Alfie’s?
