‘It’s a battle!’

Host Dermot O’leary on how the judges are giving Simon a headache!

-

What are your thoughts on the talent this year? the girls are an incredibly strong category this series – if i was a judge i’d want the girls. there are some good characters in the mix, too, but they can all sing. i don’t think viewers mind the eccentric characters in the latter stages of the show, as long as they have the talent to back it up.

How are the three new judges getting along with Simon?

All three of them have had no problem disagreeing with him. in years gone by, if Simon didn’t like an act, the other judges would defer to him because he’s the boss. But this year, we’ve seen far more instances where Simon has said something and Robbie has disagreed with him straight away. it becomes more of a battle on the panel.

Have there been any arguments between husband and wife duo Robbie and Ayda? And what are they like as judges? not many arguments… yet. Robbie’s taken to it like a duck to water, it’s like he’s been doing it for years. He’s intelligent, articulate and is able to sum up in a really simple, uncomplicated way. Ayda’s come racing out of the traps because she knows she’s got a point to prove – the others are all terrified of her!

Do you think Simon will get to the end of this series and regret hiring them? Yes, he might do – for the headache that Robbie gives him! But i think that it’s a good thing really.
