Shock discovery

Kat is left in turmoil following a revelation from an old friend of her late cabbie dad, Charlie…

-

Kat Slater is rocked by a bombshell this week, and it ain’t the one about husband Alfie being Hayley’s babydaddy. It’s connected to her dad, Charlie, who popped his clogs three years ago.

Charlie, you’ll recall, drove a black cab, and Kat is keen to follow in his footsteps. It’s her ambition that leads to her discovery. Struggling to learn ‘The Knowledge’, she visits Charlie’s old cabbie tea hut for inspiration and reminisces with his old mate Tony.

When the pair then head to a nearby pub, they bump into another of Charlie’s pals, called Maurice (Eric Richard, who played The Bill’s Bob Cryer).

Tony is a salt-of-the-earth kind of bloke, but Maurice on the other hand is distinctly frosty, and his attitude leaves Kat suspicious. Once Tony’s left, she confronts him, but she’s left in turmoil by what he says and quickly leaves on her moped.

‘Kat’s in no fit state to drive, but she’s desperate to get out of there,’ reveals our Walford mole. ‘As she pulls into Albert Square, she accidentally hits a pensioner and falls off the moped, knocking herself unconscious.’

When Kat comes round, she realises she’s hit someone and runs home in a panic. She lies to Hayley that she had a minor scrape, and storms off to the E20 to knock back some booze. Hayley and Stacey urge her to come home, but when Kat finally returns, she breaks down in floods of tears.

Unable to cope, she later has another skinful at The Vic, leaving the family worried. She tries to paint on a smile the next day, but is rocked again when Alfie turns up.
