Danny Dyer picked up the trophy for Favourite Soap Star. And the actor, who plays pub landlord Mick Carter, couldn’t be more thrilled…
‘I’m a bit choked up,’ he says. ‘It’s a bit of a surprise, but a lovely,
early Christmas present. I’ll put it in my dressing room, so I can look at it every day and be proud.’
It’s been another big year for Mick, who’s currently behind bars, wrongly accused of shooting his ex-pal Stuart Highway. ‘It’s always a highlight playing Mick and I’ve been blessed with such a beautiful soap character,’ says Danny.
Away from Walford, who has Danny enjoyed watching on TV? ‘Jodie Whittaker from Doctor
Who,’ he says. ‘What a woman; an incredible actress! I’d love to see her cross over to Eastenders.’
With Christmas fever well and truly upon us, Danny is now preparing to swap Albert Square for the stage, as he and Dani are starring in Nativity! The Musical at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
‘I’m very excited about working with my baby,’ he tells us. ‘It’s been something that we have always dreamt of. And on Christmas Day, all the family will be coming over, so it will be nice to have a day off and relax.’
