a good old-fashioned World War Two romance with Brad Pitt starring and Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, Cast Away) behind the camera, Allied tells of Pitt’s dashing Canadian intelligence officer falling for French Resistance fighter Marion Cotillard while on a job in Casablanca. But what do the lovers really know of each other? That’s the key question for the second part of the movie and it shapes everything. It’s a handsome production with classy acting throughout, although it’s Cotillard who shines brightest, eclipsing even the usually radiant Pitt. There may not be anything new here, but the journey is a hugely emotional and exciting one.
