In 1988, in his 30th anniversary year, he told us how he had decided to put work before romance. ‘I was 19 and felt the choice was thrown at me that I either had my career or my girlfriend,’ he revealed. ‘I chose my career. I have not been disappointed.’ but in 1990, he opened up to us about his regrets at not becoming a dad. ‘I am sad not to have had a family of my own,’ he said. ‘In a perfect world, I would have liked to have a boy and a girl.’
