Julie Andrews gives one of her sprightliest performances in this wonderful 1920s musical spoof, throwing herself into the role of Millie, a would-be flapper who befriends actress Mary Tyler Moore and faces up to Beatrice Lillie’s gang of white slavers. Elmer Bernstein’s tuneful score won an Oscar and the title number is absolutely delightful.
