After three months languishing at Her Majesty’s Pleasure, Mick Carter is finally back home where he belongs. But he’s in no mood for a Cockney knees-up around the old Joanna.
The Vic landlord has been to ’ell and back; wrongly locked up for shooting Stuart, and forced to live alongside the kind of crims that make Phil Mitchell look like a Care Bear. Worst of all, he spent much of his time behind bars believing his beloved Linda had left him.
We’re not at liberty to reveal the details behind Mick’s release – but suffice to say the truth is finally out about what really happened on the night Stuart was shot. Did the barmpot fall for Linda’s plan, and confess that he put a bullet in himself ?
As Mick is in turmoil, haunted by what his former pal put him through, Linda tries to focus on the positives.
‘Mick’s home, and that’s all she wants,’ says Kellie Bright, who plays her. ‘Her take on things is “He’s here, so let’s draw a line under everything that has happened and just move on.”’ But surely that’s not going to be as easy as she hopes. Mick won’t be impressed if he learns about the desperate lengths his missus went to in a bid to secure his freedom – like moving his archenemy into The Vic.
As Mick tries to settle back into normality, it’s obvious that he’s feeling anything but normal. And, as the week progresses, he struggles to readjust.
Before long, it becomes clear that he has only one thing on his mind – and it isn’t Christmas. He wants revenge on Stuart for setting him up.
‘It’s safe to say that things aren’t done with Stuart,’ adds Kellie. ‘Once Mick is out of prison, there’s going to be a fallout from what happened.
‘Mick isn’t being upfront about anything. If Linda knew that he was after revenge, her concern would be that he will end up back in prison. It wouldn’t be the fear of what he could potentially do to Stuart; it would be about where it’s going to land Mick.’
But with Mick a man on a mission, is Linda’s difficult year about to go from bad to worse?
