Baby bombshell!

The Slaters reel when Alfie is exposed as Cherry’s father

-

Alfie’s only get-out-of-jail card is to say “The reason I did this is because…”

Eastenders bosses always dish up some piping-hot drama on Christmas Day, and on the menu this year is a plot that’s been bubbling away since May.

Back then, viewers found out that Alfie was the father of Hayley’s unborn baby. Seven months on, and with baby Cherry now a noisy fixture in the Slater house, Kat finally learns the truth.

Hayley’s always worried that her secret will get out, and Jean – who also knows – is feeling the strain, too. When the family celebrate young Arthur’s birthday, Stacey can see that she’s on edge.

After an incident with the cake, Stacey confronts her mum. Hayley overhears, and distracts Stace by telling her that Jean and Ian Beale are an item.

Alfie, meanwhile, is juggling balls. He wants to reunite with Kat, but has to keep Hayley sweet.

As Christmas arrives, Kat is determined for everything to be perfect – a sure sign that disaster is looming. Things get off to a decent start, and even Squeale’s arrival doesn’t put the faarmily off their dinner. But then Alfie makes a shock discovery, and it’s downhill from there.

Kat throws Bev out and, with tensions rising, Alfie also decides to leave. Hayley stops him and they make a plan, but then a chain of events leads to everyone finding out that Alfie is Hayley’s baby-daddy.

‘Alfie does a speech, where all the mire is being thrown at him,’ reveals Shane Richie, who plays him. ‘His only get-out-of-jail card is to say “Okay, the reason I did this was because…”’

Tensions reach boiling point, and just when it looks like the situation is under control, things take an unexpected turn.
