Rogue dealer
Ian Mcshane was returning in a fourth
series of BBC1’S Lovejoy, the comedy drama that he’ll forever be associated
with, when TV Times caught up with him. The then 50-year-old actor took the title role of the roguish antiques dealer, while a pre-downton Abbey Phyllis Logan starred alongside him as Lady Jane Felsham, who helped Lovejoy with his various deals.
Ian admitted to us that he didn’t possess Lovejoy’s remarkable talent for being able to spot genuine antiques from fakes.
‘So far no one has ever asked me to value their granny’s old jug,’ he said. ‘And I hope that they never do!’
