1 Carman

Story So far: Born in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, Sally, 37, had roles in Doctors, Holby City and Heartbeat before memorably playing series regular Kelly Maguire in C4’s Shameless.

Plans for 2019: Since arriving on the cobbles of Coronation Street in 2017 as troubled mechanic Abi Franklin, the mum of teenager Seb, Sally is slowly but surely becoming a central player and she’s set to get even bigger storylines this year…

anything else? Sally is dating Corrie co-star Joe Duttine, aka Tim Metcalfe.

Masali

2 Baduza

Story So far: Cape Town-based Masali is a graduate of the New York Film Academy in LA and has built up a string of theatre and film credits.

Plans for 2019: Heading the cast of BBC1’S adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s young adult book series Noughts + Crosses. Set in a fictional dystopia, it follows Masali’s character, Sephy, and Callum (played by Peaky Blinders’ Jack Rowan), who are divided by the colour of their skin, but united by love.

anything else? Fluent in South African language Xhosa, she wants to start her own production company.

Joe

3 Sugg

Story So far: The Youtube sensation, 27, became a household name when he took to the floor with Australian pro dancer Dianne Buswell in the recent series of Strictly Come Dancing, finishing a runner-up.

Plans for 2019: Just days after the final, he was chosen to host the BBC’S New Year’s Eve concert alongside Strictly champ Stacey Dooley, and it looks set to be the start of a busy year for Joe, who is very keen to do more presenting work.

anything else? Joe’s sister is fellow Youtube star Zoe ‘Zoella’ Sugg.

5 Billy Howle

Story So far: Stoke-ontrent-born Billy, 29, made his name in E4’s Glue in 2014, and was in BBC1’S The Witness for the Prosecutio­n in 2016.

Plans for 2019: Playing the son of Richard Gere’s US media mogul in BBC2 drama Motherfath­erson.

anything else? In 2016, Billy modelled for Prada.

4 Josh O’connor

Story So far: After making his telly debut in Lewis in 2015, Josh,

28, has gone on to win fans as eldest brother Lawrence ‘Larry’ Durrell in ITV’S period drama The Durrells.

Plans for 2019: As well as playing revolution­ary student Marius in BBC1’S current adaptation of Les Misérables, Josh will be back in Corfu for the fourth and final series of The Durrells later this year. He will also be playing Prince Charles in the third series of Netflix’s The Crown.

anything else? His very first acting experience was in a school production of The Wizard of Oz, when he was aged seven.

6 Molly Windsor

Story So far: Nottingham­born Molly, 21, made her TV debut in C4’s 2009 film The Unloved. Last year, she won a Best

Playing student Rose opposite Katherine Kelly’s university professor in ITV thriller Cheat.

Actress and director Samantha Morton cast an 11-year-old Molly in The Unloved after spotting her at a drama workshop.

7 Sofia Oxenham

Story So far: The Radatraine­d actress has a string of theatre roles to her name and had a guest role in a 2014 episode of ITV’S Grantchest­er.

Plans for 2019: Joining the cast of BBC1’S Cornish costume saga Poldark as newcomer Tess.

anything else? Sofia’s CV lists her interests as: ‘Surfing, travelling, comedy and cowrie [shell] collecting.’

8 Ken Nwosu

Story So far: Trained at the Drama Centre London, Ken has won a series of plaudits for various theatre roles. He enjoyed a part in 2018 film Christophe­r Robin and recently played Max Sanford in BBC1’S hit thriller Killing Eve.

Plans for 2019: The lead role of Thomas Benson in ITV’S three-part workplace bullying drama The Man, penned by Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett. Ben Miller co-stars.

anything else? His earliest acting memory is playing King Herod in his school Nativity.

9 Ella Bruccoleri

Story So far: After graduating from drama school in 2017, Ella has had small roles in period dramas The Last Kingdom and Genius.

Plans for 2019: Ella made her debut as trainee Sister Frances in the Call the Midwife Christmas special, and is back in Poplar this week for series eight of the BBC1 period drama.

anything else? Her CV lists jazz and folk singing among her skills.
