Story So far: Born in Mexbor­ough, South York­shire, Sally, 37, had roles in Doc­tors, Holby City and Heart­beat be­fore mem­o­rably play­ing se­ries reg­u­lar Kelly Maguire in C4’s Shame­less.

Plans for 2019: Since ar­riv­ing on the cob­bles of Coronation Street in 2017 as trou­bled me­chanic Abi Franklin, the mum of teenager Seb, Sally is slowly but surely be­com­ing a cen­tral player and she’s set to get even big­ger sto­ry­lines this year…

any­thing else? Sally is dat­ing Cor­rie co-star Joe Dut­tine, aka Tim Met­calfe.

Masali

2 Baduza

Story So far: Cape Town-based Masali is a grad­u­ate of the New York Film Academy in LA and has built up a string of theatre and film cred­its.

Plans for 2019: Head­ing the cast of BBC1’S adap­ta­tion of Malo­rie Black­man’s young adult book se­ries Noughts + Crosses. Set in a fic­tional dystopia, it fol­lows Masali’s char­ac­ter, Se­phy, and Cal­lum (played by Peaky Blin­ders’ Jack Rowan), who are di­vided by the colour of their skin, but united by love.

any­thing else? Flu­ent in South African language Xhosa, she wants to start her own pro­duc­tion com­pany.

Joe

3 Sugg

Story So far: The Youtube sen­sa­tion, 27, be­came a house­hold name when he took to the floor with Aus­tralian pro dancer Dianne Buswell in the re­cent se­ries of Strictly Come Danc­ing, fin­ish­ing a run­ner-up.

Plans for 2019: Just days af­ter the fi­nal, he was cho­sen to host the BBC’S New Year’s Eve con­cert along­side Strictly champ Stacey Doo­ley, and it looks set to be the start of a busy year for Joe, who is very keen to do more pre­sent­ing work.

any­thing else? Joe’s sister is fel­low Youtube star Zoe ‘Zoella’ Sugg.

5 Billy Howle

Story So far: Stoke-ontrent-born Billy, 29, made his name in E4’s Glue in 2014, and was in BBC1’S The Wit­ness for the Pros­e­cu­tion in 2016.

Plans for 2019: Play­ing the son of Richard Gere’s US me­dia mogul in BBC2 drama Mother­fa­ther­son.

any­thing else? In 2016, Billy mod­elled for Prada.

4 Josh O’con­nor

Story So far: Af­ter mak­ing his telly de­but in Lewis in 2015, Josh,

28, has gone on to win fans as el­dest brother Lawrence ‘Larry’ Dur­rell in ITV’S pe­riod drama The Dur­rells.

Plans for 2019: As well as play­ing rev­o­lu­tion­ary stu­dent Mar­ius in BBC1’S cur­rent adap­ta­tion of Les Misérables, Josh will be back in Corfu for the fourth and fi­nal se­ries of The Dur­rells later this year. He will also be play­ing Prince Charles in the third se­ries of Net­flix’s The Crown.

any­thing else? His very first act­ing ex­pe­ri­ence was in a school pro­duc­tion of The Wiz­ard of Oz, when he was aged seven.

6 Molly Wind­sor

Story So far: Not­ting­ham­born Molly, 21, made her TV de­but in C4’s 2009 film The Unloved. Last year, she won a Best

Plans for 2019:

Play­ing stu­dent Rose op­po­site Kather­ine Kelly’s univer­sity pro­fes­sor in ITV thriller Cheat.

Ac­tress and di­rec­tor Sa­man­tha Mor­ton cast an 11-year-old Molly in The Unloved af­ter spot­ting her at a drama work­shop.

7 Sofia Ox­en­ham

Story So far: The Ra­da­trained ac­tress has a string of theatre roles to her name and had a guest role in a 2014 episode of ITV’S Grantch­ester.

Plans for 2019: Join­ing the cast of BBC1’S Cor­nish cos­tume saga Poldark as new­comer Tess.

any­thing else? Sofia’s CV lists her in­ter­ests as: ‘Surf­ing, trav­el­ling, com­edy and cowrie [shell] col­lect­ing.’

8 Ken Nwosu

Story So far: Trained at the Drama Cen­tre Lon­don, Ken has won a se­ries of plau­dits for var­i­ous theatre roles. He en­joyed a part in 2018 film Christopher Robin and re­cently played Max San­ford in BBC1’S hit thriller Killing Eve.

Plans for 2019: The lead role of Thomas Ben­son in ITV’S three-part work­place bul­ly­ing drama The Man, penned by Doc­tor Fos­ter writer Mike Bartlett. Ben Miller co-stars.

any­thing else? His ear­li­est act­ing mem­ory is play­ing King Herod in his school Na­tiv­ity.

9 Ella Bruc­co­leri

Story So far: Af­ter grad­u­at­ing from drama school in 2017, Ella has had small roles in pe­riod dra­mas The Last King­dom and Ge­nius.

Plans for 2019: Ella made her de­but as trainee Sister Frances in the Call the Mid­wife Christ­mas spe­cial, and is back in Po­plar this week for se­ries eight of the BBC1 pe­riod drama.

any­thing else? Her CV lists jazz and folk singing among her skills.
