Diagnosis day

Mick and Linda’s son Ollie has his assessment for autism

-

There’s long been a question mark over Ollie Carter’s development. Back in 2016, the tot suffered a seizure after he was knocked from his highchair during a row between siblings Lee and Nancy, and Mick and Linda were subsequently told he could have long-term problems.

In a shock twist, regular check-ups and Linda’s close monitoring of her son have since shown signs of autism, a condition unrelated to his accident. After five months on the NHS waiting list, the lad finally has his assessment this week. Unsurprisingly, the parents are on edge as they prepare for the appointment. Linda snaps at Tina, and Shirley is perturbed to notice an empty wine bottle in the bin, suggesting her daughter-in-law has been trying to booze away her worries. As Linda hastily covers, will Shirley accept her explanation?

Later, at the hospital, Mick and Linda are feeling nervous. As Ollie is called in for his assessment, all his worried parents can do is wait.

‘Mick and Linda have been concerned about Ollie for quite a while now,’ says our Walford mole, ‘and have tried their utmost to ensure he settles into his new school.

‘Though they know that autism is possible, a diagnosis would still feel quite overwhelming for them. But, in true Carter style, they’ll face it head on, whatever the outcome.’

Linda is surprised when Mick presents Ollie’s consultant with a list of questions. As the couple then have a heart-to-heart, they reminisce about old times.

Before long, Ollie’s assessment is over. What will the doctor say?
