Tim proposes to Sally after secretly discovering that he’s a bigamist
Laws are regularly broken in Weatherfield, and one crime in particular is on the rise – bigamy. Peter Barlow committed the offence in 2003 when he married Shelley while already wed to Lucy; Beth Sutherland was guilty as charged when she got hitched to Kirky in 2015 without divorcing Craig’s dad, Darryl; and this week Tim Metcalfe joins the club when he ’fesses up to having a secret missus, Charlie, in addition to wife Sally.
And the reason Tim’s never mentioned this before? He never knew. Confused? It all comes out when dad Geoff returns from Las Vegas with Yasmeen, and reveals they got hitched while they were over there. Tim remarks that they will need a UK service to make it official, but Geoff points out that it’s already legal – at which point, the colour drains from Tim’s face.
Opening up to Steve and Kevin, he admits that he married an air hostess in Vegas, years ago, for a joke. Steve and Kev think it’s hilarious, but Tim’s not laughing, and asks solicitors Imran and
Adam for advice.
Tracking his ‘other’ wife down, he arranges to meet up with her in a bar in town, where he asks her for a divorce. Charlie (exEmmerdale and Cutting It star Sian Reeves) agrees to give him one, on the condition Tim foots the bill.
Back in Weatherfield, Tim’s pals suggest honesty is the best policy. But dim Tim has another idea.
At a wedding party for his dad and new stepmum, he proposes to Sally again – who thinks it’s ever so romantic – and tells Kev and Abi he’s going to divorce Charlie and remarry Sal, who’ll never know that their 2015 union didn’t count.
But is there more chance of Elvis rising from the dead than there is of him keeping his big secret?
