The Book of Life
Get ready for some dancing in The Book of Life
★★★★ ANIMATION Inspired by the legends surrounding the Mexican
Day of the Dead festival, this vibrant animated fantasy bursts with colourful design and quirky humour. Two conniving gods bet on the outcome of a romantic triangle involving reluctant bullfighter Manolo (voiced by Diego Luna), his heroic soldier friend Joaquín (Channing Tatum) and the local town mayor’s feisty daughter María (Zoe Saldana). ★★★ backdrop, it might have looked a bit grim up north, but this turned out to be a sunny, toe-tapping, feel-good classic, even spawning a West End musical. Julie Walters adds plenty of dry wit as Billy’s dance teacher.
